Pimp or Pastor

A popular minister in the Baltimore, Maryland area once asked his congregation what is the difference between a Pimp and a Pastor. What a profound and rather absurd question to ask a room full of believers. How could he even compare the two? As I continued to listen to his message the similarities were hard to deny.

The very word Pimp conjures up images of fancy cars, custom designed suits, expensive jewelry and living in a big house paid by the “work” of their prostitutes. How many of us have questioned a prostitute’s “loyalty” to their pimp? The pimp enjoys all the great toys like a big house, fancy cars and money while the prostitute is out on the streets doing all the work. The whole time they believe the pimp is protecting them and looking out on their behalf. They believe that without their pimp they would be lost. Does this sound familiar?

Likewise, how many of us believe that our “blessings” come through our pastor? Have you ever stood in a prayer line hoping the pastor would “heal” you of your infirmities or disease? Have you ever called and asked them to pray for you as if they have a direct line to God? Does your family question your “faithfulness” to your pastor? Do you continue to give and give and the only need being met is the elegant edifice? Have you ever taken your last dime to the church because you were told they would give you the same anointing they have? Do you continue to serve a pastor even though they have misused you?

There is no more anointing on a pastor then there is on any member of the Body of Christ. Pastors have been giving a spiritual office and should not use it to abuse the members of their congregation. Faithful members are not there to fulfill a pastor’s personal desires, hidden agendas or material lust. Pastors should never set themselves up so that every blessing, healing or breakthrough seems to come through them. They should point to God not to themselves.

Blessings are not a result of our pastor or anybody else: they are a result of our obedience to the word, righteous living and a personal relationship with God. Never do more for your pastor then you would for God. Pastors are servants of the Most High God, not a deity to be worshipped.

So what is the difference between
a Pastor and a Pimp?
